Disappointing. Just another cookie cutter Idol we'll all forget about in a few years. February 23, 2010 Douglas Rau (Philadelphia-ish, PA, USA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm not a big fan of Idol, especially once the preliminaries are over and the comically bad singers no longer appear. The one season I gave a chance to was the one David Cook won. He was one of the few contestants I really respected. He would take older hits from the 70s and 80s, rearrange them and make them sound like hits again. I was really happy when he won and was really excited for his first album. Alas, like so many other forgotten Idols, he went down the paved road of so many before him and became just another bland "star". America doesn't need any more pedestrian pop (or, in the case of Cook, rock) stars that put out bubble gum pop songs that put up one or two "hits" on the charts because so many people are gullible and listen to what Ryan Seacrest and others like him tell them are "hit songs" and then, those "artists" are rarely heard from again. I enjoyed "The Time of My Life" when it came out but "Light On" was generic and dull. "Permanent" is one of the few songs on the album that has a story behind it and thus, it isn't cookie cutter and mundane. Sad thing is, it's the exception, not the rule. Download those two songs ("The Time of MY Life" and "Permanent") but don't buy the CD. We don't need to reward mediocrity in this country any more than we already do.
American Idol February 1, 2010 William Krebs 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
David Cook is one of te best rockers today. I did not get a chance to see him win "American Idol", but what he has done since is great. His voice along with his style makes for a great combination. Pick this one up for some great music along with some great vocals!
Excellent debut CD January 11, 2010 Jodi Bett Citron (Philadelphia, PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really am enjoying the David Cook CD. I rooted for him on American Idol and was so excited when he won. I am definitely not disappointed with his CD. It's a great mix of songs and his voice is amazing. I love the songs, especially "Permanent". It's a beautiful tribute to his brother. Overall... it's an excellent CD and I look forward to his next one.

We had watched Cavid Cook on American Idol and had heard one of the songs from this CD on the radio. We are very pleased with the CD - he's a great new artist.
