Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
2009 release. With a background in the joys of sampling and a foreground in scuzzy guitar, bass and beaten up drums, with schizo music tastes and a West Country pace, theyve been building brick by dirty brick. Now, theyd like to welcome you into their beautiful home for a little nose around, a kind of party if you like. And if a little blood gets spilled then thats just how it is. Nobody said it was going to be a spread from "Hello" magazine. It will, though, be the best party youve ever been to. The House That Dirt Built represents a huge step forward from an already fantastic debut in Great Vengeance & Furious Fire. Since then The Heavy have toured the world and, where the first record was sample-based, the new one is much more a product of working as a band. The House That Dirt Built is larger than life, funny, terrifying and occasionally beautiful. It is, in fact, a house youll want to visit again.

4 out of 5 stars These guys are the Next Big Thing.   July 30, 2010

Saw this band at 80/35 festival in July in Des Moines Iowa on a free stage. They had everyone in the crowd on their feet. The lead singer has tremendous charisma and stage presence. Keep your eyes on this bunch!

Purchased on expectation of good music. I Liked: "How you like me now?" from the KIA Super Bowl commercial. Searched the group out on You Tube. I thought the How you like me now video was pretty cool. So, I purchased the album. I was disappointed with the rest of the music on the album. Didn't really care for any of the other songs that much.

I enjoyed the song, How you like me now, heard it on you tube and David Letterman, loved the Kia commercial. The disc is paper wrapped without lyrics, the deep notes are dull and thumpy, it sounds as if it was recorded under water, in a basement. The songs are O.K., but the recording leaves much to be desired, and the lack of quality, combined with no lyric sheet, leaves most of the songs to the imagination. I would love to know what he is singing, I would love to hear crisp notes. Buyer beware.

4 out of 5 stars Sweet, sweet funk   June 28, 2010

Don't let anything fool you about the appearance of this album....this is James Brown and George Clinton inspired funk. It isn't the same as either of those guys but keeps the same hard driving beat and moves it forward into the 21st century. Many people will call this R&B but unless you're talking about the 60's when Staxx Records and Motown were called R&B you're in the wrong category. Funk is what this is and rocks the funk out.

I was first attracted to this band because of the Kia commercial. The beat of that song along made me want it. The CD was surprisingly good and I play it to get my blood pumping in the morning. I recommend it to anyone.
